"What a nice show we had this morning in our young cow classes.  Just tremendous quality and let's give the juniors a hand before we go any farther.  I pulled out four young cows that I really admire.  They have the style, the balance, the sweep to the rib and they move well on their feet and legs.  I pulled out my milking yearling - a tremendous heifer with lots of spring to the rear rib, beautiful feet & legs and a beautiful mammary system.  If anything, I'd like to take it up a little higher at the top of the rear udder, but that comes as they milk longer.  I pulled out the Jr. 2-year-old - a beautifully balanced heifer who's angular and shows tremendous veination throughout.  I also pulled out my two Sr. 3-year-olds. My first place heifer spells quality.  She's long from end to end.  She has a flat bone and a beautiful mammary system.  If anything, I'd like to strengthen her up in the loin, but she has a tremendous rump.  My second Sr. 3 is a beautifully balanced cow who I really admire, but I'd like to see a little more seam at the top of her rear udder - but that's getting picky.

When it comes down to it, it's a close placing.  All four cows are extremely nice.  But I have to go with the older females, the ones that have had two calves and so today I'm going with my two Sr. 3-year-olds and for honorable mention, I'm going with the milking yearling.  I give her the advantage in width of rump and thurl position over the Jr. 2-year-old today."
