The cow show of the Mid-East Spring National Holstein show is underway here in Columbus, OH. It’s a beautiful sunny day, but still pretty chilly out in the capitol city of Ohio. 97 youth participated in the All-Breeds Youth Showmanship contest Friday afternoon. There were 4 classes, split by age. Here the 14-15-year-olds try to catch judge John Ayars’ attention.

Showmanship judge Blaine Crosser gives this young man some tips.

The Mid-East American Dairy Association provided pizzas for exhibitors and attendees Friday night. The pizza was from Domino’s which has worked with the Dairy Checkoff program to use more cheese!


The Buckeye Classic sales were held today. The Ohio State Dairy Club puts on three different breed sales during Spring Dairy Expo – Guernsey, Jersey and Holstein. This year was the 30th Anniversary of the Holstein edition of the sale!

Spring Dairy Expo is underway!

The 2010 edition of Spring Dairy Expo kicked off Thursday in Columbus, OH, where it is now snowing!

The Midwest Revue Brown Swiss sale started things off this afternoon. The sale averaged $3,241. High seller was lot 28 at $13,500. She was a 1/08 Starsky daughter of Mort Tower Frisky (3E94). Look for more details coming soon at www.allbreedaccess.com

The trade show is located in the dairy barn this year, here is a booth for the Ohio Livestock Coalition, which was formed last year in an attempt to prevent potential regulations HSUS wanted to try and get put in place.

Kelli Dunklee, from the Holstein Foundation, and Steve Moff, Holstein superintendent, pass out Holstein show numbers in preparation for the Mid-East National Holstein show which takes place Friday morning and Saturday afternoon.
